Friday night; Pizza night!

It is Friday night, Pizza night- every single Friday night in the Olsen-McDaniel household.  After scouring the region for the best pizza to be had, we decided no other pizza compares to ours, so it has become a weekend ritual. It's a joint effort for the best pizzas in Turkey Creek!

Len begins Friday morning (after making me a delicious Cuban coffee) by chopping up a head of broccoli. He then crushes four cloves of garlic and mixes that with 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in a small dish.  The chopped fresh broccoli goes into a ziploc baggie, with the garlic and olive oil poured over top.  He tosses the bag around a bit until it mixes well, and places it in the fridge to marinate.  The broccoli turns a brilliant green.

We then go paint the mast.

and chase an alligator off of our property. three times, no less.

and grade about twenty research papers.

and help the neighbors with an electrical problem.

wash dishes.

get the mail.

fold laundry.

watch the fish jump in the canal.

and feed Willis.

then pet Willis.

and kiss his head.

and repeat the Willis cycle at least a hundred times a day.

By about 6pm, it is time to call it a day. We get cleaned up, and start building our pizzas.  The marinated broccoli is spread across a thin pizza crust.  We slice castelvetrano olives, kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, cut feta cheese in to small cubes, and top it with finely shredded Italian blend cheeses. Lastly we cover it with some shredded mozarella.

There is no sauce at all,
but it is piled high, and oh so tasty!

The second pizza is a Margarita, which is really simple to make.
Only 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce is spread thin, also over a thin
pizza crust.  I sliced fresh tomatoes from our little patio garden,
and sprinkle them with salt and pepper.  Next, I cut about a dozen
leaves of sweet basil (with scissors) which we also grow.  I add
five slices of fresh mozzarella, and then sprinkle a thin layer of
the shredded Italian cheeses.Voila! Easy peasy. We can never make
one pizza over the other, because both of them taste incredible 😋

This is the piece de resistance- using the grill!

Len grilling pizzas is both a science and art form.
(OMG! He has on the WORST work shorts. Ever.
I swear he resurrected them from the rag bag, lol)

Perfection.

While the pizzas are often paired with red wine,
tonight I went straight for the Havana Club and
Coke Zero. Len went for a Yuengling. Always.

There's nothing better than sitting across from this guy,
sharing our pizzas, and watching the sunset from our deck.

Quite often every meal of the day is enjoyed while
sitting on our deck, taking in the view. This evening
the mullet were jumping, two turtles swam by, and
the pesky alligator came back. Again. Len went
down and repeatedly scared him with a stick, and
I'll be danged if the alligator swam straight for him!
He decided throwing rocks from afar was more safe.

As we finished up dinner, I began to hear someone
blowing their conch shell.  I put my old trumpet playing
skills to use, and replied.  It's how the neighbors invite
each over for a cocktail!  It works splendidly :)

We spent the next couple of hours at Kennie
and Marge's. They were celebrating their 30th
wedding anniversary by going out to dinner
with their good friends, Bob and Wan.

In this next month, Bob and Wan, along with Karen and Steve,
will be buddy boating to the Bahamas.  I wish Kantiya were
ready to go too, but we will just be finishing this semester.
We have some great friends here in Turkey Creek.  We love our quiet little neighborhood when many of the snowbirds go home. Len has written a song about that, too, but we'll save it for another time!

Until then, G'nite, y'all!
