Curacao: Birds and Blooms

Quite simply, this one is for my momma.

She loved flowers.

All flowers.

Especially pink ones.

Second to that, my momma loved birds.

All birds.

She would sit at her dining room window with her binoculars, spying on the birds at the feeders in her backyard.  (Truth be told, she was always on the lookout for deer, too.)

My vacation to Curacao would have been one my mother would have absolutely loved.  I felt her with me, each time I admired the many, many flowers.  I would sit quietly with my camera to try and capture a photo of the colorful birds.  Three times the hummingbirds got away from me.

This was my momma, taken on her 79th birthday in 2013
She was wearing the pretty floral dress I bought her.
I took her to the Stuffed Pig in Marathon for a late breakfast.
The waitress surprised her with a slice of key lime pie- her favorite.
But that was then, and this is now.

Last week would have been her 84th birthday, and the second one I have not celebrated with her.

So this blog is for her...all the birds and blooms I captured on my stay in Curacao.

These were at the base of the stairs going
up to our apartment.

This was the TINIEST little bird I saw while
waiting to watch the sunset one evening.

Curacao is covered in every shape and size of cacti.
I found the pattern of the needles to be beautiful.

I spotted these berries on a path where white tailed deer are
often seen. Though I saw deer tracks, I never saw any deer.

This beauty landed on our balcony when Len and
I were having a glass of wine one late afternoon.
Mom would have lost. her. mind. 😵
This looked similar to an aloe vera plant, but the COLOR.

There was every shade of bougainvillea all over
the island.  Mom loved these plants in the Keys.

She loved hibiscus, too.

The outdoor shower by the pool was surrounded
by plants and flowers. I would love this in my yard!
Mom would have, too.  I could just imagine her
walking around all of them, touching, smelling, and
pinching off the dead leaves and blooms.

One afternoon, while by the pool, I heard all sorts of
squawking and cackling going on.  I looked up and
was shocked to see two green parrots in the tree!

On our last morning, I was having my coffee on
the balcony, and I heard the same noises. I found
them in a palm tree, and I think the female was giving
her mate what for... and he was trying to dodge her!

After several minutes of fussing and fighting,
they kissed and made up 💕

They then looked my way as if to say, "Do you think she saw us?"
I had a good chuckle, and I could hear my momma doing the same.

Oh, how I miss my momma.

She was, without a doubt, the. very. best. momma. ever.

G'nite, momma
