First Day of Sailing

We didn't get that early start as we had planned, given we were up so late the night before. Danny cast off our dock lines at 11:15am; we're full of fuel, water, ice and provisions, and ready to set sail-sail...exciting times!

Cap'n K is FINALLY headed out of Old
Bay Marina for the Chesapeake Bay!

These have been the sights I long for- the
channel markers directing me to open waters :)

Lunch aboard Kantiya- life is good!

Before too very long, the Chesapeake Bay bridge was in sight!

This was such a cool light...it looked as if someone
stayed on this buoy at one time keeping the light.

I asked my love to take the helm so I could sit on
the bow and snap pics going under our first bridge!

I'm so happy!!!  (You can see, no wind- dang it.)

There we go, sliding under the bridge.  It's
such an optical illusion- it looks as if we'll hit
but we easily clear it with room to spare.

Looking down the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Out sailing with the big boys!  While the wind was mostly out
of the south, as it often is this time of year, we still got to roll
out the jib for the first time and we picked up a knot or two.

While I was driving at the helm, my chief navigator was
frequently checking his laptop for the NOAA charts.  He
mapped out our course while he was in China last month.
I love that man; he's always thinking ahead :)

We had a beautiful, and uneventful first day with Kantiya.
We sailed about 33 nm, past Annapolis, to North Beach, MD.
There Len had located an anchorage, which we easily
headed in to and we used our windless for the first time.
We dropped the hook at 6:45pm, and set it on the first try.
After a celebratory rum and coke while watching the sunset,
we had burgers and corn on the cob on the grill.
So far, life is good and we are happy (campers) sailors!

G'nite, y'all!
